Precinct Committee Officers
Being a Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) is one of the most important roles in our party. As a PCO, you are on the front lines of winning elections up and down the ballot – from the School Board to the Senate.
Here’s what PCOs do:
- Serve as the main point of information and contact for voters in their neighborhood and within the Democratic Party.
- Serve as a central part of their local Democratic organization.
- Elect Party leadership
- Help fill vacancies in elected office
- Lead their precinct caucus every two years
Becoming a PCO is one of the most important roles you can play in helping Democrats win up and down the ballot in your area.
For more information, check out our PCO Handbook in English and our PCO Handbook in Spanish.
PCO Elections
You can be elected to a 2-year term as PCO by your neighbors in the August primary in even-numbered years. To do so, you’ll need to file to run for PCO with your county auditor. Don’t worry: it’s fast, free, and you can do it online:
First, click here to find this year’s filing and election dates. The candidate filing window is always the 5 business days (8am Mon – 5pm Fri) up to the third Friday of May. As such, it varies slightly year-to-year. In 2021, the filing week will begin at 8am on May 17th and end at 5pm on May 21st.
If the candidate filing window is open, click here to file for PCO!
If you’d like to become a PCO before the next election, you’re in luck! If there’s a vacancy in your precinct, you can also be an appointed PCO!
Appointing PCOs
If there is no elected PCO for your precinct, you can be appointed to fill that vacancy for the remainder of the term. Appointed PCOs have all the same rights and responsibilities as elected PCOs except that they may not be appointed until after our party’s biennial officer elections.
If your precinct does not have a PCO and you would like to be appointed to fill that vacancy, please contact 40thdems@gmail.com.
Click the button below to find your precinct (under the ‘Voter Registration’ tab on their site).
