Endorsements (2025)

40th Democrats 2025 Updated Endorsements

Good afternoon!

The 40th LD Dems Executive Board met to evaluate its count method for the August endorsement meeting. After careful consideration and taking into account consultation and feedback from sister organizations, campaigns, and members, the executive board voted unanimously to shift its tallying from the outcome-based method described on Monday night to a candidate-based method. In other words, the candidates were delinked from each other and treated independently when counting votes. This affected only two outcomes: in Bellingham City Council, Ward 2, Leah Wainman is now endorsed and in Bellingham City Council, Ward 6, Michael Lilliquist is now endorsed. To be clear, all candidates who previously received endorsement still maintain that endorsement.

After partner feedback, the executive board felt that this method was simpler, more intuitive, and easier to understand. We want to emphasize that this process only works with collaboration; collaboration with our partner organizations in neighboring jurisdictions, collaboration with the campaigns, and, most importantly, collaboration with the 40th LD membership. We look forward to working with the endorsed candidates and their campaigns for the next eleven weeks and look forward to bringing forward more specific policies to ensure a clear standard operating procedure for future contested endorsement meetings.

Thank you all for your understanding, grace, partnership, and collaboration through this process,
Sincerely,
The 40th LD Dems Executive Board
